Measuring Youth Program Quality: A Guide to Assessment Tools, Second Edition
 In 2007, we released the first edition of this report comparing the purpose, history, structure, methodology, content and technical properties of different program observation tools. In this second edition, we added an additional instrument and updated technical and practical information about many of the tools. We hope this new and improved resource will help individuals and systems make sound decisions about what assessment tools and related resources will best meet their program assessment and improvement needs.

Federal Programs & Youth Workers: Opportunities to Strengthen Our Workforce
Funds for youth development and after-school programs as a whole are scarce, and when resources are devoted to training or workforce development, they appear to be included as afterthoughts or minor priorities. The Next Generation Youth Work Coalition undertook a scan of a broad range of federal programs to determine how funds are being used to strengthen, support and retain youth workers. This report also starts a dialogue about increasing policy supports for this workforce that we trust to foster the positive development of our nation's young people.

Minnesota Legislative Caucus on Children and Youth Holds First Planning Session
The Forum and the National Conference of State Legislatures facilitated the first planning session of the newly created Minnesota Legislative Caucus on Children and Youth. The bi-partisan, bi-cameral Caucus, championed by State Senator Mee Moua, agreed on a core set of beliefs, made key operational decisions and devised a children and youth learning agenda using keypad voting technology.

Forum Aids Massachusetts in Statewide Planning Process
Forum staff worked with the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley and the Executive Office of Health and Human Services to develop a statewide plan for youth with a diverse Action Planning Team (APT). Since October, APT members have been working diligently to develop comprehensive action strategies that will improve outcomes for all children and youth in Massachusetts.
